Spiritual heads of all the “gods and goddesses” and fraternity members of Oba Okunade Sijuade yesterday relocated to the inner chamber of the palace of the Ooni of Ife, to carry out their traditional duties on the monarch’s “transition to the great beyond.”
Sources in Ife said the relocation was compulsory for them to allow them perform necessary traditional rites On the embalmed body of the monarch, it was gathered that due to the monarch’s hierarchy in the traditional circle of Ife and in Yorubaland, the fraternity group could still communicate with his spirit to ask some questions if need be for it.
They were said to have used different traditional perfumes in some chambers of the different shrines located in the palace while series of “Ogboni” and other traditional songs had been sung to win favour of the gods while invoking them in preparation for his burial.
Their relocation is said to have yielded positive results as different traditional priests who would perform rites on his transition were said to have been kept alert for spiritual actions. Sources stressed that the traditionalists embarked on these rites so as to ensure a thorough spiritual purification and cleanliness of the palace as tradition demands before proceeding to secondary assignments outside the palace. The fraternity group members also said to have entered into Oduduwa Shrine and other sacrificial forests at the early hours of the day to perform further rite for the “transition of the monarch”.
